Galveston Island

This past weekend we went to Galaveston Island with Papa Cain and Nonni. Going to Galveston Beach has been a favorite of the Cain family for forever! It was so fun to see this tradition carry on with the next generation in Reece and Avery. Reece was the biggest fan! She wanted to be in the water the entire time we were there. She was such a fan of the water that she was hard to get a picture of. Avery had a great time too, but it wore him out. He spent a good amount of his time sleeping.

While we were there was an abundance of seaweed that kept washing ashore. The only upside to this was watching all of the birds that the seaweed attracted.

At the end of the trip we went to "The Strand." The main reason for the stroll down "The Strand" was to go to a store called Col. Bubbie's to get some T-Shirts  for the kids.

Right after Avery was born I was living on very little sleep. One evening I was talking to Avery and I was trying to call him my little "Baby" & "Buddie" at the same time, and it came out "Bubbie." At that point Ryan remebered the store in Galveston that he had visited several times growing up. From that day on Avery got his first nickname...
Colonel Bubbie!

After we left the store we went to a old school creamery. Avery had been having a difficult time eating all weekend, but we got him a milkshake. He sucked it down in about two minutes.

The Many Faces of Avery

One of the things we have been noticing about Avery, is that he is a very spirited little boy.  He has many sides to his personality.  Some are good, and some are not so good.  He really gets mad when he doesn't get his way.  One of the funniest things he does if he doesn't get his way, is he gets down on all fours and starts to bang his head on the floor.  It is hard not to laugh at that, but knowing that if we do not correct the behavior, he will be more physical as he gets older.  Parenting has its highs and lows, but both of our kids make it a joy to be parents.  Without further adieu, here are the many faces of Avery...

Here he was mad that he was not allowed to open the door at the doctors office.

He loves to eat Nilla Wafers.

Can I help you?

I LOVE SPAGHETTI!!!!!!

What are you looking at?

Another Avery Update

Two weeks ago Avery had surgery to hopefully fix the swallowing issues that he has been having. He also had tubes put in his ear. It has been a long ride to finally get a diagnosis, but what we believe has been the bulk of the problem is that he has a laryngeal cleft that is allowing stomache acid and food and liquids to get into his lungs. During the surgery the Doctor injected this area to bulk it up and keep the valve from leaking. The only problem is that the is only a 6 month fix. A permanant fix will be much more invasive. There is a possiblity that he will learn to correct this as he gets older, or that he will need another surgery.

The amazing news in that in the past week he has finally started to eat solid foods. He has had mack'n'cheese, meatloaf, baked beans, cream spinach, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, tacos, spagetti and even a hotdog! This boy is on his way to recovery!

Happy 4th of July

This year we went to my parents lake house for the weekend. On the Thursday before we left Reece had a parade. She was Abe Lincoln, and the picture was just too cute not to share. We had a great time at the lake house, and I am just going to let the pictures speak for themselves.

Enjoy... :)
